2017 FIVE TIME AWARD WINNER! Independent Publisher Book Awards (IPPY) Medalist and Honors Recipient from the Hollywood, Southern California, London, and New England Book Festivals. After years of peaceful research aboard a secret alien spacecraft buried within the Antarctic permafrost, Brian Malcolm is suddenly locked in a desperate fight to save himself and his mates from a horrific alien entity. A freak accident has released a long-dormant organism capable of perfectly mimicking other life forms through violent assimilation. The entity is imprisoned with dozens of workers deep under the ice when a panicked crewman initiates security protocols to seal off their subterranean laboratory. As Brian and the others fight from the surface to rescue those trapped below and struggle to reconcile the bizarre and seemingly contradictory behavior of the organism, they begin to suspect that they are battling more than one form of alien life. When the evidence suggests that the creature has escaped from below and that some crewmen on the surface aren’t what they appear to be, each must overcome their fear and paranoia not only to survive but to prevent the inadvertent world-wide spread of the organism by a foreign research team, which has acquired a sample of the creature and is preparing to ship it to a highly populated destination somewhere in Asia.

I have to say... I am not a sci-fi fan normally. And I decided to delve into this book head first because I am a close friend of Tom's and that's what friends do! I am beyond surprised and excited about this book. NOT ONLY did it catch my attention from the get go, but it kept me wanting to read on. I was drawn to certain characters and was on the edge of my seat to see what happened with them. The story was profound and extremely well thought out. MY FRIEND TOM is an amazing writer. It flowed, it wasn't confusing, it was exciting, it was descriptive.... at time I felt like I was there. I am so proud of Tom!!!!THIS BOOK IS DEFINITLY WORTH THE READ! I PROMISE!

Ishtaq The Second Vial Thomas G Fournier Adam Main Books Reviews
I thoroughly enjoyed this book with the twists and turns. It kept me thinking of what might happen next. I would recommend this book to all who enjoy a book that makes you think and keeps you guessing.
Thomas Fournier brings an fresh, elemental style to a well-trod science fiction trope. An alien, loose amid the Antarctic, sets off both the struggle for individual survival and wider global conflict. Scenes quickly thrust heightened tension on the reader, who is left to hold on until the very end. Come along for a rewarding, in-the-moment, high-adrenaline adventure, and after your encounter with the Ishtaq, hope you can still recognize yourself.
I am not a fan of what I have called in the past "Science Conflition", but in this case I make an exception. I found the book easy, pleasant and comfortable as if a friend was relating a recent experience.
At first when it got to the point of introducing the aliens my mind did its usual and basically turned off and I put the book aside. For whatever reason, after a couple weeks, I started reading again and to my surprise found I really enjoyed the story aliens and all.
Ishtaq, The Second Vial is full of suspense and had several surprises that had me saying "I did not see that coming". The beginning of the book seemed slow at first but once the first real surprise comes in I could not put it down. The characters are well written and the plot line well developed. I would have liked to have seen more description on the location itself and of the various rooms and ship but other wise a well written and thought out novel.
I never write book reviews but this one is well warranted.Usually I lean towards who-done-it type murder mysteries but decided to branch out and give this one a try. So glad that I did
It has the thrill factor and plot suspense of my usual mystery category, but added with the intellectual aspect of the sci-fi, and the creeping thought that this scenario could occur present day, makes for a real page turner.
(Sidenote the font and layout makes this book an easy beach read as well)
This is a must read!
Loved this book from start to finish!
Fast paced and full of surprises and plot twists to keep your interest all the way to the end and beyond.
I disagree with others who said it started too slow. There was just the right amount of background, character building and plot development at the start to prepare the reader for what was to follow.
I hope Tom writes a sequel to this. He left so many teases at the end that demand a sequel!
Once again, this is definitely a must read!
I am a rabid reader. Currently over 400 books on my kindle and I have read most of them twice and some a bit closer to a half dozen or more.
That being said, I was enticed into reading this by the back cover. It reminded of The Thing (the Kurt Russell original). The first read through was a bit slow in the beginning, but then I was rapidly turning pages to find out what was happening to the characters. The character development was strong for the core members but I did find that there were a few too many to keep track of at times. Regardless of small editorial mistakes I have found this to be one of my favorite reads. I am looking forward to renewing my relationship with Brian and the others when I again journey to the Antarctic.
I gave this 4 stars instead of 5 for small editorial hiccups and as mentioned above the extra cast members. I understand this was most certainly not a movie and the written word allows for many more characters to be developed but in my opinion there were a few too many. I will reread this again in a month or so and update my review to 5 stars I'm sure. The second read is always easier as you know where things are going and you aren't rapidly flipping through to get to the end.
Well done Thomas and I look forward to your future work!
